Scarlett Lady Red-Hot At Ellerslie

Scarlett Lady Red-Hot At Ellerslie

Savabeel’s crack daughter Scarlett Lady warmed up for an Australian campaign with an outstanding victory at Ellerslie yesterday in the Gr 1 New Zealand Stakes. The four-year-old was second-up over 2000 metres when she accounted for Veyron who was at the top of his game after two lead-up wins at the top level.

“She’s a great horse – she’s something very special,” co-trainer Graeme Rogerson said. His plan is to now go to Sydney for the Gr 1 Ranvet Stakes followed by the BMW Stakes and a decision will then be made whether she takes aim at Singapore of the Brisbane carnival.

Scarlett Lady won the Gr 3 Doomben Roses before she was successful in the Gr 1 Queensland Oaks during last year’s carnival. She subsequently suffered a setback which ended owner Max Whitby’s Melbourne Cup hopes, but the Flemington event will be back on the mare’s programme for 2012.

Scarlett Lady was bred by WS with Stephen Luey and sold out of the Matamata farm’s 2009 Premier Sale draft for $25,000.
