Shandream Heads Pins One-Two

Smart mare Shandream won for the second time on her current preparation when she led home a Pins quinella in the open sprint at Ellerslie this afternoon. The WS-bred and sold five-year-old was a convincing winner at the expense of Undisclosed who share a common form line – they have a Listed Counties Bowl victory on their CVs.

Shandream, who won the Pukekohe event three runs back, was purchased by trainer Richard Collett for $280,000 at Karaka in 2009 and she has significantly boosted her future broodmare value with her black type success this season. She is out of the Centaine mare Pyjamas, who has a perfect record at stud with all five of her foals to race having won.

The best of them is Shandream and she has now posted six wins from her 23 starts with a further 13 placings. “I’m not sure where we go next to be honest, but her ability gives her plenty of options,” Collett said. Shandream enjoyed a good trip off the lead and rounded off strongly in the straight. “It was a nice effort and she relaxes well on a hard speed,” successful rider Leith Innes said. “When the pace is on she settles well.”
