Thy Back In Fine Style

An excellent day in New Zealand for Waikato Stud was crowned in Australia where the Stud-owned Thy triumphed at Caulfield on Saturday. The daughter of O’Reilly was successful when resuming at Caulfield for champion trainer Peter Moody.

She was making her first appearance since finishing a courageous third behind Streama in the Gr 1 Australian Oaks at Randwick in the autumn. Also placed in the Gr 1 Storm Queen Stakes last preparation, Thy was purchased out of Phoenix Park’s 2010 Premier Sale draft at Karaka by Chittick for $600,000.

The four-year-old is out of the Star Way mare Star Affair who won four races, including the Gr.3 Travis Stakes. She has enjoyed widespread success at stud with Galileo’s Galaxy a multiple winner in South Africa where she has also been twice placed at the highest level while Solid Billing is a Gr 3 Summer Cup winner and placed in the Gr 1 Sydney Cup.

Star Affair is also a half-sister to the Gr 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas and Gr 1 Waikato International Stakes winner The Jewel (O’Reilly). Gr 3 Danehill Stakes winner and Gr 1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes runner-up The One (O’Reilly) also features in the family.
