Cowboy Shoots Rivals Down

First-timer Cowboy came out all guns blazing at Trentham on Saturday to run his rivals into the ground. The son of O’Reilly had been a trial winner at Wanganui earlier this month and the three-year-old had no trouble turning that promise into raceday performance with a stylish debut victory.

Ridden by Jonathan Parkes, Cowboy bounced straight to the front and, after sprinting clear at the top of the straight, maintained a strong gallop to carry a two and a-half length winning margin past the post. He was bred by WS and they race him in partnership with Guy Lowry who trains the gelding at Hastings with Grant Cullen.

Cowboy is the first foal of the unraced Pins mare Pamper who is a sister to the Gr 3 Lion Red Plate winner Crepe De Chine and the Listed Creswick Stakes winner Glam Slam and a half-sister to the Gr 1 Lion City Cup winner and former champion Singapore sprinter Arenti (O’Reilly). It is also the Gr 1 family of Glamour Puss and Vision And Power and was further represented in Singapore on Friday night by the WS-bred and sold winner Zinly.
