Waller Eyes Gr 1 Prize With Said Com
18 July 2012
Highly-regarded WS-bred performer Said Com has been targeted toward the Gr 1 Epsom Handicap by Chris Waller. The Rosehill trainer prepared Rangirangdoo to finish a close second in the feature as a four-year-old and hopes the son of O’Reilly can go one better.
Runner-up to Mosheen in the Gr 1 Randwick Guineas in the autumn, Said Com was spelled after he had finished seventh in the Gr 1 Rosehill Guineas. That was the only time the two-time winner has finished out of the money in his seven start career.
A $290,000 Karaka purchase by Waller from WS’s Premier Sale line-up, the trainer is giving the gelding a slow build-up and furthered his preparation with a recent outing at the Rosehill trials. Said Com is out of a Centaine mare who is a half-sister to the Gr 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner Master Belt.
