Winning end to satisfying day

WS complemented a solid day in the Karaka sale ring this afternoon with success on the track at Avondale. Highlighted by the sale of a $40,000 Savabeel yearling, the Matamata farm-bred and owned Posy then struck the first winning blow of her fledgeling career.
The daughter of No Excuse Needed is the last foal of the O’Reilly mare Spring, who was a potent breeding force for the stud. Her best representative has been Posy’s older sister Daffodil (Australian Oaks, NZ 1000 Guineas, Windsor Park Plate) while Smart Giant (Pins) won five races and finished fourth in the Gr 1 Hong Kong Classic Mile.
Trained by Tony Pike and Mark Donoghue, Posy was making the fourth appearance of her career at Avondale where she overcame testing conditions to score over 1400 metres. She had previously finished in the money in her first two runs before an awkward start and a wide run brought her undone at Hastings.
