157th Stakes Winner For Savabeel
Having just his fourth start for the Terri Rae stable after a recent transfer into the yard, having initially started his career with Tony Pike, Savabeel 5yo Witz End recorded his second win for the stable, taking out the Listed Property Brokers – Ray Kean Hazlett Stakes (1400m) at Wingatui on Saturday.
As the field fanned out across the width of the Wingatui home straight, the Leah Hemi-ridden Witz End bounded to the front at the 200m before fending off another northern raider in Pour The Wine to win by a neat length with Say Satono making up good ground to claim third.
Hemi was pleased with the effort although she did have some concerns in the home straight.
“We got into a nice position and he travelled well up close to the pace,” Hemi said.
“When I pulled him out in the straight he did want to lay in a bit which made it a little difficult until I got him straightened up and balanced.
“He went to the line nicely and carried on past the post as well, so it was a nice honest effort.”
Placed in both the Gr.2 Wellington Guineas (1400m) and the Gr.3 J Swap Sprint (1400m) earlier in his career, Witz End’s overall record now stands at six wins from $285,000 for a large group of owners which includes former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull and former jockey Leith Innes.

Witz End was secured by Pike from the Trelawney Stud draft at the NZB Ready To Run Sale for $200,000.
Becoming the 157th individual stakes winner for Savabeel, Witz End is out of the Bernardini mare Gallwitz, a half-sister to the G3-winning, multiple G1 placed Retrieve as well as the Listed winners Abduction and Reparations.
We will offer just the lone colt by Savabeel at the upcoming Inglis Easter Yearling Sale with the full-brother to G1 winner Skew Wiff selling as Lot 122 – click here to view.
