WS Stallions Dominate Trophy Finish

WS gained a good measure of compensation in defeat after their colours were lowered by Undisclosed in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy at Awapuni. The farm’s hopes were mainly pinned on the talented No Excuse Needed filly I Do and she was only narrowly denied her third consecutive victory.

I Do, who is raced by the Chittick family with trainer Allan Sharrock, ranged up to challenge 150 metres from home but the WS-sired Undisclosed fought back valiantly to earn a narrow victory. By the farm’s outstanding stallion Pins, Undisclosed carries the very best of WS’s blood as he is out of the Centaine mare Dare To Win who was the winner of four races.

“He showed at the start of the season that he was as good as most of the three-year-olds and I took him to Christchurch but he went off a bit after that,” trainer Peter McKay said. “We’ve gelded him and he’s come back a better horse and made him a lot quieter.”

A brother to Pin Up Boy (Listed Northland Breeders’ Stakes), Undisclosed has now won three of his 10 starts and prior to an unplaced run on a heavy track in the Gr 1 NZ 2000 Guineas he had landed the Listed Canterbury Stakes. “We’ll just take it a step at a time but we might freshen him up for a stakes race at the end of April,” McKay said. The event in question is the Gr 3 Cambridge Breeders’ Stales at Te Rapa on April 30.
