Potent WS Family Tops Again

A son of Zabeel from a prolific WS family combined to give the Matamata farm an outstanding result on the closing day of the Premier Sale at Karaka. The colt by the champion sire out of a quality Pins mare realised $450,000 to Ocean Park’s part-owner and trainer Gary Hennessy.
The youngster is out of Tootsie who won seven races, including the Gr 3 Mannerism Stakes in Australia and the Listed Waikato Sprint Handicap at home. The pedigree page also features John Bary’s Gr 3 Taranaki Breeders’ Stakes winner No Excuse Maggie and the Australian black type winners Espurante, Urbane and Pomcelle.
Meanwhile, David Ellis didn’t pass up the chance to buy into one of WS’s celebrated families this afternoon. The Te Akau principal claimed the well-credentialled daughter of O’Reilly and Lodore Mystic for $250,000. The filly is a sister to the multiple Gr 1 winner and champion three-year-old Alamosa (Thorndon Mile, Diamond Stakes, Toorak Handicap, Otaki-Maori WFA). It is also the family of Peter Moody’s Gr 1 South Australia Oaks winner Lights Of Heaven.
An attractive grey filly by Pins took the eye of Singapore trainer Cliff Brown who went to $210,000 to secure her. She hails from a well-performed Australian family as the daughter of the Iglesia mare Lasting Luck.
The winner of five races herself, she is a half-sister to the Gr 2 Sandown Guineas and Gr 1 placegetter Scenic Warrior and the multiple stakes winner Stanzaic. Her pedigree further boasts the presence of the Gr 1 AJC Oaks winner Just Now and the Gr 1 South Australia Derby winner Shiva’s Revenge.
