Wolfwhistle turns heads at Hastings

The regally-bred Wolfwhistle turned on the style at Hastings this afternoon when he made his middle distance debut. The O’Reilly four-year-old showed his quality with a strong performance to come from well off the pace and win with authority.

“It was his first time over ground and we wanted to do the right thing for the horse and let him find his feet and relax,” trainer Jason Bridgman said. “It was a huge effort to come from that far back and there is further improvement in him so that’s encouraging.”

Wolfwhistle was urged around the field with 800 metres to run and rounded the turn widest of all runners. The entire responded positively for rider Matt Cameron in the run home to post the third win of his nine start career. “He was just too good for them,’ Cameron said. “He used to do the odd thing wrong, but he’s matured now.”

Secured by Te Akau principal David Ellis from WS’s 2012 Premier Sale draft for $240,000, Wolfwhistle is a son of the farm’s dual Group One winner Legs (Kelt Capital Classic, NZ Oaks). Ellis also purchased the mare’s Savabeel colt for $200,000 last year.
