Good-looker continues winning habit

Handsome WS graduate Wolfwhistle is building a record that befits his illustrious parentage. The son of O’Reilly and the dual Group One winner Legs (Kelt Capital Stakes, NZ Oaks) struck again at Riccarton on Saturday for the fifth win of his 11-start career and is now unbeaten in three runs over ground.

The winner of last month’s Listed Spring Classic at Riccarton, Wolfwhistle enjoyed another victorious outing at southern headquarters on Saturday with a strong win under 58kg.

“We weren’t sure how much pace there was going to be in the race and Jason said to keep him breathing right and happy and he was just too good for them,” rider Matt Cameron said.

The Listed Wanganui Cup later this month is a likely target in the immediate future and the Gr.1 Spring Classic at Hastings, a race his mother won, could be a possible long-term aim.

“We’ll work him through the middle distance handicaps this season and hopefully he can develop into a weight-for-age horse next year,” Bridgman said.

Wolfwhistle was a $240,000 Karaka purchase for Te Akau principal David Ellis in 2012 and he also went to $200,000 to secure the half-brother by Savabeel earlier this year.
