A moment to savour for Marsh
12 November 2013
Savour The Moment opened his Group One campaign in the best possible style at Te Rapa on Saturday. The WS-bred and sold son of Savabeel surprised his trainer with a first-up victory in the Listed Legacy Lodge Sprint.
“To be honest I thought it would be a huge run if he could finish third or fourth, bearing in mind that he only won his maiden at 1200 metres,” the Cambridge trainer said. “I thought they would be a bit sharp for him so we’re rapt. He put himself right there and he’s done the job well. His target is the Thorndon Mile and I am looking forward to putting him up to 2000 metres at some stage. He has been quite immature, but he’s really furnished now and he’s turned in the coat a lot quicker this year. He’s come up super.”
The winner of six of his 19 starts, Savour The Moment was purchased by Albert Bosma’s Go Racing for $37,500 out of WS’s 2009 Premier Sale draft at Karaka. He is from the Group One family of Headturner (Australian Derby) and Anacheeva (Caulfield Guineas).
