Super Hoop’s Rating Spot On

Leading Sydney jockey Jim Cassidy has formed a strong opinion of Somepin Anypin and his judgement was again on the mark at Rosehill this afternoon. The WS-bred and sold son of Pins galloped his rivals into submission over 1400 metres to win in track record time and earn a crack at the next month’s Gr 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup.

Trained by Gary Portelli, the four-year-old was out of the gates quickly to make the running and had his rivals off the bit turning for home. The gelding jogged to the post to chalk up his fifth career success from just the 11 starts when he carried an impressive four and three-quarter length winning margin across the line.

“I rode him aggressive to run time, I wanted to see how good he was today,” Cassidy said. “He had no weight so I could do it. I was a bit hard on him the last bit but I taught him something today, he knows how to go to the line now.” Somepin Anypin ran 1:21.38 which bettered the previous time standard at Rosehill over 1400m of 1:21.51 set by Final Fantasy in March 2001.

Out of the Centaine mare Ungaro, Somepin Anypin is a half-brother to the Listed winners and Gr 1 performers Salsa and Rule Of Engagement-Evergreen (Hong Kong) while Charlie Bub, O’Crikey and Darn Good Singa have also been successful. The dam is a sister to the Gr 1 Goodwood Handicap winner Centisle and a half-sister to the Gr 2 Sunline Jubilee Stakes and Marsh Classic (twice) winner Sylvaner. Somepin Anypin was bought out of WS’s 2009 Premier Sale draft to Karaka in 2009 for $30,000 by New South Wales-based agent Vin Cox.
