Lauren Tate does Pins proud
28 April 2014
A notable Te Rapa double for Pins was completed by Lauren Tate when she accounted for a strong field in the Gr.2 Travis Stakes. Her upset victory in the main event on the card followed Shandream’s success in the open metric mile.
The four-year-old Lauren Tate, a daughter of the former smart racemare and Travis placegetter Haylee Baylee, is trained by her breeder-owner John Morrell.
“Haylee Baylee got us on the map and she’s still running around in the paddock at home,” he said. “Everything we’ve had out of her has won.”
Lauren Tate was ridden by Michael Coleman, who also enjoyed a successful association with Haylee Baylee, and he gave the mare the ideal trip behind the leader to the turn.
“She put herself in the right spot and she did wander around in the straight so it was a good, strong effort,” he said. “She was right there at the 300 and kept finding.”
