Hutchings to ride Rock ‘n’ Pop gelding in Group 1 NZ Derby
Former champion apprentice Rory Hutchings will ride the Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott-trained The Mayor in Saturday’s Group 1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby (2400m).
“He knows his way around Ellerslie and he knows his form so we’re happy to have him on,” Scott said. “He’s a Group One-winning jockey.”
A two-time winner from four starts, The Mayor finished sixth in the Group 2 Avondale Guineas (2100m) at his most recent appearance.

On Saturday night, Jess Greenfield was awarded the loveracing.nz Mary-Lynne Ryan Young Achiever Award at the Property Brokers National Breeding Awards at Karapiro. When asked by Steve Davis what the future looked like for Jess, Greenfield humbly replied: “Just keep working away at Waikato Stud and see where we end up.”
