Ocean Park mare ties them in knots

Ocean Park, sire of Knot

Well-related mare Knot has been patiently handled and the wait proved worthwhile at Rotorua this afternoon when the 4-year-old jogged to an easy maiden victory.

The Waikato Stud-bred and race mare had finished fifth in her May debut and was then put aside by trainer Cody Cole to develop.

The daughter of Ocean Park was placed in a quiet trial on the synthetic track at Cambridge to fit her for her return and she made light work of her rivals over 1230 metres.

Knot improved three wide from the back with 600 metres to run and was cruising in fourth spot on the turn. Rider Sam Collett gave her one behind the saddle in the straight and the mare drew clear by 2.5l.

A half-sister to the Listed Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders’ S. winner Tabata, Knot is out of the black-type performer Splitsecond. Her dam is a sister to the G1 Arrowfield Stud S. winner Sixty Seconds.

Also featuring in this pedigree are the Group 1 winners Legs, Xtravagant, Tiptronic and Guyno.

Splitsecond missed to Sacred Falls in successive years after foaling Knot and she produced a colt last year to Tivaci and is back in foal to the son of High Chaparral.
