Portelli wins battle for Tivaci’s son

Tivaci x Touting colt

Group 1-winning trainer Gary Portelli took a shine to Waikato Stud’s first of two offerings during the second day of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and parted with A$250,000 to secure the Tivaci colt.

The Warwick Farm-based conditioner had to fend off several other admirers before he landed Lot 317, who was offered on behalf of the Matamata farm by Sledmere Stud.

The youngster is out of the Savabeel mare Touting, whose only foal to race is Pins’ daughter Bold Manner and she has won twice in a brief career.

Touting, who was served last year by Ocean Park, is a three-quarter sister to the G3 Eagle Technology S. winner Love Affair.

She is also a half-sister to the G3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup winner Somepin Anypin, Listed winner and G1 QTC Sires’ Produce S. placegetter Rules of Engagement and the Listed Winter Championship winner and G1 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders’ S. runner-up Salsa.
