Ocean Park’s son back in business
Smoke And Mirrors has successfully returned to competition at Kranji with victory over 1400 metres following a break.
Off the back of two lead-up trials, the son of Ocean Park was successful in the hands of jockey Oscar Chavez for trainer Jason Ong, who prepares the Waikato Stud graduate for the Warplan Racing Stable.
Smoke And Mirrors, who has now won twice in Singapore, initially passed in at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale and was then sold to trainer Lee Freedman for $30,000 at the Ready to Run Sale where he was offered by Ohukia Lodge.
When Freedman relocated back to Australia, he was transferred to Ong’s operation.
Smoke And Mirrors is a half-brother to three winners, including the multiple Group 3 placegetter Starrybeel, and is out of the unraced O’Reilly mare Starry.
She is from the family of the G1 Livamol Classic winner Savy Yong Blonk and was served last season by Tivaci.

Gutsy bebut win for Ardrossan’s Macallan
Ardrossan’s son Macallan impressed on debut in Thursday’s opener at Tauranga, overcoming Heavy10 conditions to win the Tierra Maiden 3YO (1200m) by 1.3 lengths. Trained by Wexford Stables and racing for JML Bloodstock, the gelding showed toughness and class to finish strongly before the meeting was abandoned due to weather.
