Pins mare proves too sharp

Waikato Stud graduate Look Sharpish provided Irish jockey Robbie Downey with a significant victory at Moonee Valley on Friday evening.

“That was very exciting and good to see Robbie get his first metropolitan winner,” said co-trainer Troy Corstens.

Look Sharpish settled toward the back of the field before the Pins mare picked up ground and Downey weaved a path between runners to gun down her rivals in the straight.

“She was rock hard fit and they ran it at a true enough pace and that really suited her,” Corstens said.

Runner-up in the Listed Tasmanian Oaks as a 3-year-old, Look Sharpish was a $60,000 purchase for Malua Racing and Flemington Bloodstock from the farm’s Karaka draft.

A sister to multiple winner and G1 Queensland Derby runner-up Pinstripe Lane, she is out of the Danasinga mare Singalong, who is from the family of the dual Group 1 winner and sire Stratum Star and the two-time Group 3 winner Prague.
