Sacred Falls 3YO worth waiting for

Kaliuwaa Falls has required careful handling and connections of the son of Sacred Falls were rewarded for their patience at Geelong on Friday afternoon.

The son of Sacred Falls was a runaway winner over 1435 metres against older opposition at his fourth appearance.

“He’s always showed a lot of ability and was probably our best three-year-old early doors, but he’s just taken that bit more time,” trainer Mitch Freedman said.

With headgear on for the first time, the Waikato Stud-bred and sold Kaliuwaa Falls dropped back from an outside barrier before improving near the turn and was in touch with the leaders into the straight.

He burst through a gap 150 metres off the post and dashed away to score by 3l.

“He’s a horse that we thought would win a maiden quickly and go right on with it, but he’s taken a bit to do it and the blinkers have really helped him,” Freedman said.

Kaliuwaa Falls was ridden by Jye McNeil, who said the gelding relaxed well and was strong through the line.

“We ended up back from the wide draw and he switched off nicely and then showed an explosive turn of foot.”

Kaliuwaa Falls was purchased for $50,000 at Karaka by bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo and is out of the Savabeel mare Promenade, whose five foals to race have all been winner and includes Group performer Seriously.

Promenade, who foaled a colt last season by Tivaci before a return visit, is a half-sister to the Matamata farm’s multiple Group 1 winner Legs with family members Tiptronic, Guyno and Sixty Seconds also successful at the highest level.
