Sons of Savabeel sell well

Savabeel x Pander colt (lot 337)

A pair of Savabeel colts did Waikato Stud proud on the closing day of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Offered at Riverside Stables on Wednesday afternoon through Royston and Catriona Murphy’s Sledmere Stud draft, they sold for AU$425,000 and AU$200,000 with the top-priced youngster offered as Lot 337.

He was chased by a number of potential buyers before his time in the ring came to a close with a final winning bid from brothers Michael and Paul Moroney and Catheryne Bruggeman.

A brother to the multiple winner El Guerrouj, he is out of the O’Reilly mare Pander and she is a half-sister to Precedence. He won two editions of the G2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup and won three times at Group 3 level in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, JRA Cup and Premier’s Cup.

It is also most notably the family of the late Tavistock, a dual Group 1 winner and successful sire.

The other Savabeel colt, Lot 452, sold to John Malcolm’s Cheltenham Stables and he is out of the Thorn Park mare Suavito, who was a top-class mare with victories in the G1 Futurity S. and G1 CF Orr S. to her credit.

She is also a half-sister to the G3 J Swap Sprint winner Sultan Of Swing, also runner-up in the G1 Windsor Park Plate, and the family of European Group 3 winner Pyrrha.
