Another star staying performance
Honest toiler Lincoln Star collected another victory with a typically game performance over 2200 metres on his home track at Awapuni this afternoon.
The Waikato Stud-bred son of Savabeel is rarely far off the action and he now has five victories to his credit with a further 14 placings emphasising his genuine nature.
Trained by Lisa Latta for Lincoln Farms, Lincoln Star sat on the leader’s quarters for apprentice rider Wiremu Pinn and, after challenging at the top of the straight, fought tooth and nail to the post to triumph.
He is out of the O’Reilly mare Dating, who won twice at Group 3 level and placed in the G1 Captain Cook S., and she has a 100 per cent record as a broodmare.
Her first foal Date Night, also by Savabeel, was a stakes performer while Lincoln Star’s brother Lincoln Sky has also been successful.
Lincoln Star was a $180,000 purchase at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale and the Listed Wellesley S. winner Maritimo, whose son Natural Storm won at Happy Valley earlier this week, also features in his immediate pedigree.
