Brave Kinloch claims top honours

Kinloch (Ashlea Brennan)

Kinloch overcame the outside barrier and testing track conditions at Randwick on Saturday afternoon to prevail in the Provincial-Midway Championships Final.

Waikato Stud is involved in the ownership group of the Kris Lees-trained 4-year-old and gained a degree of compensation after stablemate Loch Eagle, also part-owned by the Matamata farm, finished runner-up a race earlier in the Listed South Pacific S.

Kinloch has now won five of his 13 starts and the son of I Am Invincible is unbeaten this preparation following his successful resuming run at Gosford last month.

“It’s great to win this on a big day. He was a promising horse who lost his way a bit, as colts can do and the decision was made to geld him and it was the right one,” Lees said.

Kinloch was caught wide in midfield from his horror draw, but despite a tough run, he finished off resolutely under pressure.

“He did it the hard way and to his credit, he relaxed well. I thought I was a good chance turning for home, I had trialled him before and knew when I needed something he would find,” winning jockey Nash Rawiller said.

Kinloch was purchased at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by bloodstock agent Bruce Perry, who is also a part-owner, out of breeder Jamieson Park’s draft for $300,000.

He is a son of the More Than Ready mare More Beautiful, who was successful five times, and is a half-sister to the G1 WATC Derby winner Grand Journey and the family of the G1 Galaxy H. winner Griante.

Farm yarns: Mark Chittick
