Son of Sacred Falls strikes again
Kaliuwaa Falls added to his burgeoning record with another sublime performance over 1500 metres at Geelong on Wednesday afternoon and the promise of plenty more in store.
He now has two consecutive wins and a placing from five appearances and trainer Mitch Freedman said the best is yet to come from the Waikato Stud-bred and sold son of Sacred Falls.
“He’s a nice horse and always showed good ability. He’s really starting to put it all together,” the Ballarat-based conditioner said.
Kaliuwaa Falls settled third last and one off the fence before rider Jye McNeil peeled wide at the top of the straight and the 3-year-old warmed to his task in the closing 250 metres to win going away by 1l.
“I think a mile to 1800 metres will suit him better and maybe 2000 metres in a bit more time,” Freedman said.
Successful rider Jye McNeil said the race unfolded perfectly and Kaliuwaa Falls was never troubled.
“It all went to plan and we were able to settle a bit closer and he quickened when I asked him. Mitch has got him going really well and I’ve clicked nicely with the horse.”
Kaliuwaa Falls was purchased at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $50,000 by bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo. He is out of the Savabeel mare Promenade, whose five foals to race have all been winners and includes Group performer Seriously.
Promenade, who foaled a colt last season by Tivaci before a return visit, is a half-sister to the Matamata farm’s multiple Group 1 winner Legs with family members Tiptronic, Guyno and Sixty Seconds also successful at the elite level.
Ocean Park Trans-Tasman Double
With Andrew Forsman’s 3yo Ocean Park filly Pine Leaf breaking her maiden by a widening four and a quarter-lengths in the last at Cambridge on Wednesday, celebrations continued as just ten minutes later it was the Chirs Waller trained Velaris who saluted at Canterbury with fellow Ocean Park runner I Park finishing a gallant third.
