Giant makes it look easy
Sacred Giant played a starring role on Saturday’s Riccarton undercard when he produced a commanding front-running performance over 1400 metres to double his winning tally.
The strapping Terri Rae-trained son of Sacred Falls was caught wide early before jockey Lisa Allpress pressed on to make the running and they eased clear early in the run home.
The Waikato Stud graduate proved an easy ride in the run to the post to score by 2.3l.
Sacred Giant was purchased out of the Matamata farm’s 2018 draft at Karaka for $170,000 by Upper Bloodstock and made one appearance in Hong Kong before relocating to Rae’s stable.
He was a debut winner last spring and posted six placings before he showed his appreciation of a firmer surface on Saturday afternoon with a dominant display.
The 5-year-old is a son of the Pins mare Joy, whose sister Crepe De Chine won the G3 Lion Red Plate and a pair of Listed events. It is also the potent Waikato Stud family of the Chittick family’s dual Group 1 winner Glamour Puss.
Joy foaled a Savabeel filly last season and was then served by Ocean Park.
