Red Vienna goes all the way
Red Vienna gained both a deserved and overdue breakthrough victory over 1300 metres on the synthetic track at Cambridge on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tony Pike-trained three-year-old had twice previously finished runner-up at the venue and with another pair of placings to his credit his maiden success was warranted.
Red Vienna drew a wide barrier and crossed the field to lead and he was a willing partner for rider Michael McNab in the run home to comfortably hold his rivals at bay.
The son of Bull Point was purchased for A$125,000 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and is raced by an ownership group that includes Waikato Stud.
Red Vienna is out of the Snitzel mare Vienna Waltz, who was successful as a juvenile, and she is a daughter of the G3 Sweet Embrace S. winner Burning Sands and the family of the G2 JJ Liston S. winner and G1 Underwood S. runner-up Skoozi.
