Ocean Park mare on a roll
Ocean Flyer produced a tenacious performance on Sunday afternoon to continue her winning form on her home track.
Trained at Port Macquarie by Paul Shailer, the daughter of Ocean Park had broken her maiden over 1800 metres at her previous appearance and successfully stepped up to 2000 metres.
Ocean Flyer settled midfield and one off the fence under Grant Buckley before they loomed into contention at the top of the straight and came with a sustained finish to score again.
“She’s heading in the right direction, she’s not the finished product yet but her manners were a lot better today,” Shailer said.
“She was strong over the concluding stages and I’m sure there are more wins in store for her.”
The four-year-old was bred by Waikato Stud and Mark Chittick’s sister Celia Crawshaw and was a $70,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale purchase for EPM Racing.
Ocean Flyer is a half-sister to the Listed Alexandra S. winner and G1 Australian Guineas runner-up You’re So Good, whose brother Indrabeel was also a multiple winner and black-type placegetter. Their dam is the Flying Spur mare Lightning Spur, who is a half-sister to the two-time Group 1 winner
Melito and the family of the multiple Group 3 winner and sire Pariah.
