Mare back to winning ways

Savabeel

A step up in trip on a better surface at Rosehill on Wednesday afternoon were major contributing factors in Newley Wed furthering her record.

The promising Savabeel four-year-old had finished runner-up over 1300 metres on a heavy surface when resuming at Hawkesbury and relished the improvement to a Good 4 track and lapped up the 1500 metres.

Trained by Team Hawkes for breeders Waikato Stud, Newley Wed settled second last on the fence before rider Tommy Berry angled her wide at the top of the straight and she thundered home for her second win from seven appearances.

“She’s a progressive horse and a Savabeel mare who is still learning her craft,” stable representative Steve Thompson said.

“Over the next 12 months you will see a more furnished horse.”

Newley Wed is out of the O’Reilly mare Absolutely Me, who is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winners Glamour Puss and Vision And Power.

Newley Wed has a three-year-old sister named Candy Love, an unraced Savabeel juvenile sister and her dam has since returned to the multiple champion stallion.
