Trainer plays winning hand again
Kurtis Pertab’s conditioning skills were highlighted by the effort of Ocean Park mare Poser to
overcome a testing track to win at Rotorua on Wednesday.
The Matamata-based trainer had produced the five-year-old for a first-up maiden success over 1600 metres at Tauranga earlier this month and she stepped up to 2200 metres to go back-to-back.
Unbeaten in two appearances for Pertab, Poser settled wide in midfield before improving to strike the front at the top of the straight and stayed on strongly for rider Tegan Newman for a tidy victory.
Bred by Mary Chittick, Poser is the first winner for the Pins mare Wannabe and she is a half-sister to the winner and G3 Sunline Vase placegetter Gold Spice.
Their dam Zoe Spice was successful on five occasions and is out of a half-sister to the G3 Cuddle S. winner Rhysess.
Wannabe produced a filly last season by Ardrossan before returning to the Group-winning son of
Redoute’s Choice.
Smart Love too smart this start
Smart Love (Savabeel ex Relentless Desire) made a winning return at Te Rapa on 14 September, storming home by 3.3 lengths. Racing in Garry Chittick’s colours, the four-year-old mare impressed for Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott after two solid trials.
