Trainer pulls right rein with Tivaci 3YO

Roydon Bergerson’s faith in Tivaci Princess was handsomely rewarded at Trentham where she upset a competitive field of three-year-olds in fine style.

The Awapuni trainer had scratched the filly from a midweek maiden at New Plymouth in favour of chasing Saturday’s $50,000 contest over 1400 metres and his decision proved spot on.

In the colours of breeder Waikato Stud colours, the daughter of Tivaci posted her first victory with a dashing performance that may see her in black type company next weekend.

“When they get that brand on their shoulder they are bred to run in good races and she may back up in the G3 Eulogy S., I’ll see how she does and it’s on her home track,” Bergerson said.

“Her last couple of runs have been unlucky and she put it all together today. The pace was on and she did very well.

“We’ll look at the fillies’ series from now on and hopefully on to the G1 New Zealand Oaks.”

Tivaci Princess sat in second spot to the turn before striding to the front 150 metres from home for Tina Comignaghi and they coasted clear to score by 1.8l at her sixth appearance.

“That’s the first ride I’ve ever given Tina and it won’t be the last,” Bergerson said.

Tivaci Princess’ victory was a timely one as Waikato Stud will offer her half-sister by Ocean Park as Lot 165 at next month’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.

They are out of the unraced Savabeel mare Exactly Like You, whose only other foal to race is the two-time winner Image Of You.

Exactly Like You’s dam Glitzy was successful at Listed level and they are from the family of the G2 Matriarch S. winner Savapinski.
