Progressive Ocean Park mare wins again

Ocean Park

Podium continued the strong start she has made to her career with further success on Saturday at Trentham to give trainer Guy Lowry further encouragement to aim high with the four-year-old.

The Waikato Stud-raced daughter of Ocean Park proved too good for her Rating 75 rivals over 1400 metres to post the third victory of her four-start career.

“She’s stepping through the grades nicely, she’s a powerful mare who is going the right way,” Lowry said.

“I have nominated her for the G1 Thorndon Mile so she’ll have one more run before that and we’ll see what happens.”

Podium settled midfield off the fence and, once into the clear, she thundered home under rider Michael Dee.

“They didn’t go too quickly in front and I was in a little bit of trouble at the corner, but once I got out she was very good,” he said.

Podium was purchased by Waikato Stud, who also struck a winning blow earlier in the day with Tivaci Princess, via the Gavelhouse platform for $13,000.

She is a daughter of the Elusive Quality mare Quest For Quality, who was successful in Australia, and is out of the unraced Danehill mare Rosnaree, who is a half-sister to the G1 Grosser Preis von Baden and G1 Italian Derby winner Morshdi.
