Superstar stallion Savabeel advanced his Group 1 tally at Trentham where his son Prise De Fer posted a hard-earned victory in Saturday’s Captain Cook S.

Savabeel has now sired a remarkable 28 individual top-flight winners and for his latest success story it was thoroughly deserved.

Prepared by Mark Walker, Prise De Fer had previously placed five times in Group 1 company and the seven-year-old broke through in style.

“He’s been so genuine throughout his career and that was his 14th go at a Group 1 race,” Assistant Trainer Sam Bergerson said.

“The one instruction was to get on to Aegon’s back and it’s a great result, he’s definitely a stable favourite.”

Jockey Michael McNab executed the plan perfectly and tracked the Waikato Stud-bred and sold Aegon across the top before finishing too well for the son of the late Sacred Falls.

“He really deserved that, he is so tough and was well-prepared,” McNab said.

Bred by Raffles Dancers, Prise De Fer was purchased at Karaka by Te Akau boss David Ellis for $100,000 and has now won 11 races.
