Savabeel 3YO opens account in style

Savabeel

The well-related Savoir Faire capped off the promising start he has made to his career with a clear-cut victory on his home track at Matamata on Friday afternoon.

The Mark Walker-trained three-year-old placed in his first three starts before he acquitted himself well when fifth in the Listed Eagle Memorial over 1500 metres and relished the step up to a middle distance.

Rider Opie Bosson settled the Waikato Stud-bred and sold son of Savabeel back in the body of the field before improving near the turn and the three-year-old let down strongly for a comfortable win.

Savoir Faire is a brother to the multiple Group 3 winner Milford with their dam the unraced O’Reilly mare Etiquette.

She is a sister to the four-time Group 1 winner and late stallion Sacred Falls and therefore a pedigree that came with a hefty price tag.

Te Akau chief David Ellis went to $640,000 to secure Savoir Faire out of the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale draft of Ohukia Lodge, who offered him on behalf of Waikato Stud.
