Savvy Sovereign cashes in again

Savabeel

A pre-race plan with Savvy Sovereign went awry as soon as the gates opened at Geelong on Wednesday afternoon, but the dependable son of Savabeel was good enough to add another victory over 1300 metres to his record.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace four-year-old began strongly to head out to a clear lead under rider Ben Allen and had enough in reserve to record his third win from 14 starts and a further five top three finishes emphasise his consistent nature.

“He can be a headstrong horse and we told Benny to be handy so maybe the horse got the better of him, but he got the job done,” stable representative Wayne Bolton said.

Bred and sold by Waikato Stud who will offer his half-brother by Super Seth as Lot 594 at Karaka this month, Savvy Sovereign had kicked well clear on the turn and had enough in reserve to claim a half-head winning margin.

“He spends a lot of time at the beach to keep him happy and fresh and he’s having a really good preparation,” Bolton said.

Savvy Sovereign was a $150,000 Karaka graduate and is out of the winning O’Reilly mare Tiara, whose grand-dam Royal Tiara won the G1 Auckland Cup.

Tiara also has an unraced Savabeel three-year-old named Von Hauke, who was sold to trainer Cliff Brown at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale for A$190,000.
