Tivaci’s son strikes early
Tivaci three-year-old Laggan hasn’t wasted any time in opening his winning account following a tidy victory over 1400 metres at Hamilton on Tuesday afternoon.
The Waikato Stud graduate had finished a handy sixth in his first start for Ballarat trainer Patrick Kearney and showed admirable improvement to break his maiden.
He jumped well to take up a handy sit and, from fifth on the home turn, unwound determinedly in the hands of Josh Cartwright.
Laggan was initially offered by the Matamata farm through Glen Lee Thoroughbreds’ draft at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where he was knocked down to Kurt Goldman for A$125,000. He was subsequently entered in the Inglis Digital December Sale and was purchased by Adams Thoroughbred Investments and Kearney for A$35,000.
Laggan is a son of the Savabeel mare Popular and she is out of a sister to the late multiple Group 1 winner and successful sire Sacred Falls.
It is a well-performed family with Group winners Splashing Out – whose offspring Splurge, Shopaholic and Packing Pins all succeeded at black type level – Milford and Tilianam all featuring on the pedigree page.

Super Seth’s momentum continues, siring a midweek double across New Zealand and Australia. Savvysuper broke through at Tauranga, while $420,000 Ready to Run Sale graduate Sulek showcased his turn of foot at Sandown, confirming the stallion’s growing influence.
