Southern trip on filly’s radar
A trip to the South Island in search of black type is on the cards for in-form three-year-old Boasting.
The Waikato Stud-bred and raced daughter of the late Sacred Falls delivered a compelling argument for the venture with a dominant performance to win at Trentham on Saturday afternoon.
“There’s a race at Wingatui for her, I’ll talk to Mark (Chittick) when I get to the sales tomorrow,” trainer Roydon Bergerson said.
The event in question is the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight S. over 1400 metres on March
4.
Boasting may be small in stature, but she has plenty of talent and determination and sat in second spot to the turn today before romping clear to score by 2.8l.
“She’s got a beautiful temperament and is an easy horse to train. She kept on improving since Wanganui and I was pretty confident,” Bergerson said.
Boasting has now won twice from six appearances and Sam Weatherley has been aboard in both of her successes.
“She was very impressive at Wanganui, albeit it in a maiden race, and there’s not much to her but
she’s a real racehorse,” he said.
The filly is a daughter of the Savabeel mare Touting, whose three foals to race are all winners and she is a half-sister to the G3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup winner Somepin Anypin and the Listed Winter Championship winner Salsa.
They are out of the Centaine mare Ungaro and her sister Centisle won the G1 Goodwood H. and half-sister Sylvaner was a three-time Group 2 winner and produced the G1 Kenilworth Cape Derby winner Atyaab.
Boasting’s unraced two-year-old half-sister by Tivaci was purchased for A$250,000 by trainer Gary Portelli at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Ocean Park Trans-Tasman Double
With Andrew Forsman’s 3yo Ocean Park filly Pine Leaf breaking her maiden by a widening four and a quarter-lengths in the last at Cambridge on Wednesday, celebrations continued as just ten minutes later it was the Chirs Waller trained Velaris who saluted at Canterbury with fellow Ocean Park runner I Park finishing a gallant third.
