Consistent performer Spaltet fought tooth and nail at Kembla Grange on Tuesday afternoon to post the second winning strike of his career.
The Waikato Stud-bred and sold son of Savabeel has rarely been far off the action in his nine-start career and, following his latest success over 2000 metres, he has two victories and five placings to his credit.
The Annabel Neasham-trained five-year-old was given a cosy ride in the trail by Chad Schofield and fought on grimly to score by a narrow margin after striding to the front 250 metres from home.
Spaltet was a $160,000 purchase at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for Pamsel Investments and Clarke Bloodstock.
A brother to the Listed Hallmark Stud H. winner Synchronize, he is out of the unraced O’Reilly mare Splits.
She is a daughter of the two-time Group 1 winner Legs, also the dam of Wolfwhistle who won at Listed level, and the family of Tiptronic who was successful in the G1 Herbie Dyke S, and G1 Zabeel Classic.
