Ardrossan’s son a popular colt

A unique offering from Waikato Stud turned plenty of heads on Sunday afternoon during the opening session of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale at Riverside Stables.
Offered on behalf of the Matamata nursery by Sledmere Stud, Lot 183 was the only youngster in the auction by exciting young stallion Ardrossan.
A number of buyers were chasing the attractive bay before he was knocked down for A$260,000 to Mathew Becker’s Group 1 Bloodstock.
The colt is a son of the unraced Pins mare Vanilla Essence and his unraced two-year-old brother sold to Cambridge trainer Tony Pike at Karaka last year for $150,000.
Vanilla Essence is a sister to the Listed Lion Red Plate winner Raid, who was also placed in the G1 Diamond S., the Karaka Million and the G2 Matamata Breeders’ S.
Two-time Group 1 winner Stratum Star and dual Group 3 winner Prague, both now at stud, also feature on the pedigree page.
