Bee delivers sweet victory
Savvy Bee has made an encouraging start to her career and she had no trouble posting her breakthrough success at Ballarat on Sunday afternoon.
The three-year-old daughter of Savabeel had finished in the money in all four previous starts for trainer Henry Dwyer before she posted a clear-cut victory over 1400 metres.
“I hate to be tipping out a horse when they have run like that so I’ll look at the calendar and make sure we’re not passing up a good race for her,” Dwyer said.
“She is going to improve from prep to prep so I’d probably be thinking it’s the paddock for her.”
Rider Jye McNeil settled the Waikato Stud-bred and sold Savvy Bee close to the pace on the fence before they angled off the rail before the turn.
When the filly was asked for a serious effort she lengthened stride impressively to score by a widening 2.25l.
“She travelled pretty well and once she got to the outside she was terrific,” Dwyer said.
He purchased Savvy Bee at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $100,000 and she is out of the unraced Pins mare Pinata.
She is a sister to the G2 Theo Marks S. winner and G1 Epsom H. placegetter Mackintosh and also the immediate family of the G2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ S. winner Vinnetta, dam of the G3 McNeil S. winner Golden Archer.
Pinata’s Savabeel colt was sold at Karaka last year for $220,000 to Hong Kong’s Tartan Meadow Bloodstock and she has a yearling filly by Ardrossan.
