Savabeel mare doubles up

Savabeel

Summerbeel continued her hot form this preparation with a commanding performance at Moonee
Valley on Friday evening.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained daughter of Savabeel was a gallant winner on the Kensington track at Randwick earlier this month and followed up with a clear-cut victory over 2040 metres.

Summerbeel was caught wide in the early stages before rider Blake Shinn let the four-year-old slide into second spot and one off the fence.

“It’s a tricky track and being her first time here at the Valley I gave her a good guide off the leader,” he said.

Summerbeel strode to the front 200 metres from home and coasted clear to score by 1.75l to post the fourth win of her eight-start career.

“She’s a quality horse and I think she may even get out further in trip,” Shinn said.

Co-bred by Waikato Stud with Dalanna Bloodstock and Tunstall Bloodstock, Summerbeel was offered at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by the Matamata farm and was purchased by Waterhouse, Bott and GPI Racing for $310,000.

She is a daughter of the Street Cry mare Summer School (IRE) whose first foal is the G2 Emancipation S. winner Promise Of Success. The second dam, Measured Tempo (GB), is a three-quarter sister to breed-shaping stallion Galileo.

Summer School produced another Savabeel filly last season before she was served by Ocean Park.
