Patience earns winning return

Good things come to those and the connections of Bellano were finally rewarded at New Plymouth on Friday afternoon.

Thirteen proved to be their lucky number as the Waikato Stud-bred and sold Savabeel filly had placed seven times from her previous 12 appearances before she broke her maiden over 1600 metres for trainer Paul Richards.

Ridden by Doni Prastiyou, Bellano settled well back in the field and picked up ground along the fence near the turn and finished determinedly in the straight to score by 1l.

The three-year-old was originally purchased at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by Te Akau’s David Ellis for $100,000.

She is the first foal of the O’Reilly mare Glee who is from the family of the three-time elite level winner Daffodil, the G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner Aegon and the G1 Ellerslie Sires’ Produce S. winner Good Faith.

In foal to Noverre, Glee has an unraced juvenile Savabeel filly bought at Karaka by trainer Chris Waller and agent Guy Mulcaster for $140,000 while her brother was knocked down to The Oaks Stud for $400,000 earlier this year.
