Stunning effort from Savabeel’s son

I Wish I Win produced another spellbinding performance to thump an elite field of sprinters at Randwick on Saturday afternoon in the G1 TJ Smith S. over 1200 metres.

His last visit to Sydney in the spring resulted in a memorable victory in the A$10 million Golden Eagle and there was again no stopping the son of Savabeel, who is raced by breeders Waikato Stud and trainer Peter Moody.

I Wish I Win drifted back to last from an awkward barrier before he improved widest on the turn under rider Luke Nolen and he thundered down the outside to claim his sixth career victory and take his stake earnings beyond A$7.65 million.

Moody had been bullish about the handsome four-year-old’s prospects, but admitted his confidence had taken a hit with the persistent rain at Randwick that resulted in a Heavy 9 surface.

“At 10.30 this morning the track was a Good 4 and I was very happy and at 12.30 I didn’t want to come to the races when it had turned to a Heavy 8,” he said.

“His ability to quicken on dry ground is much greater so that dulled my confidence, but it was great to see my old mate Luke plot the right path.

“It shows just what a good horse he is and many thanks to the Chittick family and it’s a very special win.”

I Wish I Win will now head back to his Pakenham stable with a Sydney return for the A$15 million The Everest top of the spring wish list.

“We’ll probably get a couple of calls from slot-holders. We’ll let the dust settle and what we set out to achieve we have so we’ll head home,” Moody said.

“We’ll take the foot off the pedal and then gear toward The Everest. I don’t know where the ceiling is with this horse, but I’m pretty happy with what he’s done so far.”

I Wish I Win is a half-brother to the G3 Premier’s Cup winner and G1 Queensland Oaks runner-up Another Dollar with their dam the Pins mare Make A Wish.

Moody purchased Another Dollar’s brother at Karaka earlier this year when he wen to $375,000 for the Ocean park colt and Make A Wish produced a filly by Super Seth last season.
