Tilianam does trainer proud
Leading trainer Tony Gollan expected a bold showing from Tilianam at Doomben on Saturday afternoon and his judgment proved on the money.
The Waikato Stud graduate proved far superior to her Benchmark 90 rivals over 1350 metres in the hands of Kyle Wilson-Taylor.
The four-year-old was quickly away from the barrier to take up a handy spot and from third at the top of the straight she lengthened stride impressively for her fifth success.
“That was a terrific run, Tilianam always looked like she mapped to get the perfect run,” Gollan said.
“She held a sustained gallop and loves this trip. She’s as tough as anything and invariably gives her best.”
Tilianam was originally purchased by trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott for $270,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale and won twice for them.
She was then offered at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and was knocked down for A$625,000 to Newgate Bloodstock and relocated to Gollan’s Eagle Farm operation.
Tilianam is out of the stakes-placed Pins mare Spending, a daughter of the G3 Thoroughbred Club S. winner Splashing Out, and she is a sister to the Group winners Shopaholic and Packing Pins and a half-sister to another Group winner in Splurge.
Spending also has an unraced juvenile filly by Savabeel and a yearling daughter of Ocean Park.
