Savabeel’s son returns smart Derby trial
Gottabesavvy produced an ideal dress rehearsal for an upcoming Group 1 test when he was successful over a middle distance at Ballarat on Wednesday afternoon.
The son of Savabeel won for the third time in his eight-start career when he accounted for his older rivals under regular jockey Craig Newitt.
“That was a good, tough effort under 61kg,” said Natalie Young, who trains the gelding with partner Trent Busuttin.
“It’s great having that 2000 metre run under his belt going forward to the South Australian Derby, we won’t need to do much with him now.”
Gottabesavvy was given an economical run in the trail and he finished off generously in the straight.
Bred by Waikato Stud, he was a A$100,000 Inglis Ready to Race Sale buy for Busuttin Racing and Clarke Bloodstock.
Gottabesavvy is out of the O’Reilly mare Girls On Top, who was successful on eight occasions and is a half-sister to former Singapore Horse of the Year Currency.
