Top WS family strikes again

A rich Waikato Stud pedigree was to the fore at Casterton on Saturday afternoon when The Psychologist ran his rivals into the deck.

The Brenda O’Loughlin-trained son of Tivaci’s breakthrough success over 1800 metres was delivered courtesy of an excellent frontrunning ride by Paul Gatt.

They stepped well from the barrier to set a leisurely pace in front before noticeably increasing the tempo 800 metres from home and the gelding stuck gallantly to his task in the run home.

The Psychologist is a son of the O’Reilly mare Lego, who was successful on two occasions, and she is a sister to the Listed Spring Classic winner Wolfwhistle.

Their dam Legs was a two-time Group 1 winner of the New Zealand Oaks and Kelt Capital Stakes with elite level winners Tiptronic, Xtravagant, Sixty Seconds and Guyno also members of this decorated family.

The Psychologist was initially passed in at Karaka and was subsequently purchased at last year’s Inglis Digital August Sale for A$30,000.
