Buoy back in style at Moe

Around The Buoy raced up to his rich pedigree when he successfully returned to racing at Moe on Sunday afternoon.

The lightly raced son of Savabeel hadn’t raced since March, but was presented in forward condition by trainer Danny O’Brien to break through over 1628 metres in the hands of Liam Riordan.

He settled midfield before improving across the top and produced a sustained run to win out in a tight finish.

Around The Buoy was sold by breeder Waikato Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where O’Brien signed the ticket at A$175,000.

He is out of the Pins mare Candelabra, who is a half-sister to the G1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes winner Diademe and the G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner Embellish.

It is also the family of the former champion sprinter and two-time top-flight winner Sacred Star.

A brother to Around The Buoy now named On The Lash was sold to Busuttin Racing at last year’s Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale for A$230,000 and Candelabra has a juvenile filly by Ocean Park and a filly foal at foot by Noverre.
