Well-bred Savabeel 4YO impresses

A Waikato Stud pedigree with an abundance of Group 1 performance was to the fore at Bendigo on Thursday afternoon.

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-prepared Five Rings capped the strong start he has made to his career with victory over 1600 metres following minor placings at his previous two appearances.

“It was a nice win and he’s a really promising horse who will go over more ground,” successful rider Damien Oliver said.

Five Rings settled four back on the outer before the son of Savabeel improved widest on the turn and finished far too well for his rivals to win going away by a length and three-quarters.

“He got out to the mile on a big track and with a genuine tempo it really suited him,” Oliver said.

The four-year-old is out of the Pins mare Daisy Chain, who is in foal to Noverre, and she is a half-sister to the Matamata farm’s three-time elite level winner Daffodil.

Atishu, Aegon and Good Faith are also Group 1-winning members of the family while the pedigree further features Group success stories Mazzolino, Tully Dane and Believe Yourself.

Five Rings was sold on behalf of Waikato Stud by Ohukia Lodge at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale to Price and agent Phill Cataldo for $200,000.

Another Waikato Stud graduate by Savabeel also struck on the all-weather track at Riccarton today with Sincere opening his winning account at his third appearance.

The Andrew Carston-trained representative tailed the field to the turn and was still last with 150 metres to go before he hit overdrive to sail past his maiden rivals at the end of 1400 metres.

He is out of the unraced O’Reilly mare Heartfelt, who is a half-sister to the G3 South Island Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes winner Metropolitan and since Sincere has produced colts by Tivaci and Super Seth and is in foal to Ardrossan.
