Jedibeel does family proud
Jedibeel added further success to his burgeoning record with victory at Wyong on Friday afternoon ahead of a star member of the family opening his much-anticipated spring campaign tomorrow.
The Waikato Stud-bred and sold four-year-old’s pedigree page features glamour performer and The Everest contender I Wish I Win, who resumes for the Matamata farm and fellow owner and trainer Peter Moody in the G1 Memsie S. at Caulfield.
By Savabeel, Jedibeel has made an impressive start to his career from Brad Widdup’s stable with his latest victory over 1100 metres his second and has placed at his three other appearances.
Ridden by Jean Van Overmire, he settled behind the pace on the fence and accelerated sharply along the rail in the straight to romp home by two lengths.
“He’s still learning his craft and got a race with speed and he got cover. It was a terrific effort,” Widdup said.
“We’ve figured him out and we’ll keep him to the shorter trips. He’s very honest and hasn’t done anything wrong.”
The entire is a son of the unraced O’Reilly mare Starry, who has left five winners including the Group-performed Starrybeel.
In foal to Noverre, Starry is a half-sister to the Listed Widden S. winner Delta Girl and a well-performed family that also features the G1 Livamol Classic winner Savy Yong Blonk.
Jedibeel was originally sold at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Weanling Sale for $35,000 and was later purchased by Widdup for A$190,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
