Ideal result for well-bred mare

Savabeel

Allan Sharrock tipped Ideal as his best winning chance at his home track meeting on Saturday afternoon and his judgement proved right on the money.

The New Plymouth trainer races the Savabeel mare with co-breeder Waikato Stud and she had to overcome a tough run to claim top honours in the Rating 75 contest over 1600 metres.

Ideal was parked three wide without cover in midfield before improving even deeper across the top and she gallantly responded to rider Craig Grylls’ urgings in the run home to win for the fourth time in her eight-start career.

“She found the line well over 1400 metres at Te Rapa last time after getting too far out of her ground,” Sharrock said.

“You can’t do that and she still found the line so up to a mile I saw her as my best chance.

“The aim is to get black type with her, she’s a valuable broodmare.”

Ideal is a daughter of the No Excuse Needed mare I Do, who won 15 races for Sharrock and the Matamata nursery, including the G1 Makfi Challenge Stakes.

She has a two-year-old filly by Super Seth, produced a colt by the Dundeel stallion last year and is due to foal this season to Noverre.
