I Wish I Win did his connections and New Zealand proud with a gallant effort to finish runner-up in the A$20 million The TAB Everest over 1200 metres at Randwick on Saturday afternoon.

Bred and raced by Waikato Stud with Peter Moody who trains in partnership with Katherine Coleman, the Savabeel five-year-old performed with distinction in the Trackside slot for the New
Zealand TAB and partner Entain.

He settled three back on the fence and finished off powerfully for rider Luke Nolen after getting into the clear 200 metres from home to beat all but Think About It in the world’s richest turf event.

“He was terrific, the draw probably did us no favours and I thought he was every hope, but brave under the circumstances,” Nolen said.

“He just didn’t get the chance to find free air and build. He has run super though, the run of the race.

“They run this every year, so we got a little bit this year and I hope we get a lot more next year.”

I Wish I Win’s runner-up finish took his career earnings beyond the A$10.5 million mark and confirmed his standing as one of the top-rated sprinters in the world.

He has won six of his 18 starts, including victories in the G1 TJ Smith S. and the A$10 million Golden Eagle along with elite level Australian placings in the G1 Lightning and the G1 Newmarket H.
